I think we can all remember a time as a child on the playground and how the dynamics of the playground worked. You had your usual attendees. There was always a bully who would push all the other kids around generally make
everyone's life hell. Then you had the popular girls who stood around talking about all the other girls that were not part of the group and trying to flirt with all the cute boys. In their teen years they will be known as "Mean Girls". You had the athletes who seemed to never stop moving. On the outskirts of the playground you could always find a loner plotting the next move on his Dungeons and Dragons game or the next Columbine incident. On the sidewalks of the playground you would find the more studious students reading a book or catching up on school work. I have no shame in saying I was the awkward girl on the sidewalk reading a book waiting to be harassed by one of the mean girls. Its so funny how some dynamics stay the same when it comes to the work place. Whether you like it or not the office is basically the playground for adults. Yes, the
confrontations have evolved from minor scuffles on the playground to layoffs in the office. That bully as a child is most likely still a bully in the office place. You have all seen them. They treat everyone like second class citizens and take credit for others work. They are also known as "assholes". Most of the "mean girls" are out of the office environment all together. They either got knocked up by the athlete in high school or stayed home as a "house wife". These women always seem to re-enter the office environment as admins after going through a divorce. By this time their looks have faded and they are no longer the pretty popular girls. They are now the ladies in the office wearing too tight clothing and outdated hair styles. The loner as an adult is probably in the IT department keeping the network running and still playing Dungeons and Dragons every Friday night in his Mom's basement/garage. The athletes end up a sports coach for a middle school. The studious students are usually the true
professionals. They are the Doctors, Lawyers, Financial wizards and
CEO's of major
corporations. The fights are still the same. One person doesn't like the other, they tell the boss and then someone is
reprimanded. So basically the office place is filled with adults acting like children who get paid to annoy each other and sometimes actually do something productive.
