Unofficial After party for Rodeo Cookoff Marquis

Last night I stopped by the Marquis for the unofficial rodeo cook-off after party. All I can say is that it was a blast from the past. Everyone from college was there. It felt like it was a Greek week party. Everyone was in a great mood and there was zero drama. There was a ton of flirty going on. One of my good friends was totally staring at this guy in a black shirt but was too scared to go talk to him so I decided to play matchmaker. This guy who my friend was interested in was talking to someone I knew from college so I made my friend get up and come with me to the guy I knew. Luckily my plan worked because as soon as I started talking to my college friend my friend introduced herself to the guy she had been staring at and they wound up talking for 30 minutes. Score! It was a great night but now I am exhausted. I decided to pass on the cook-off and reunite with everyone at the Marquis for another night of craziness. I highly recommend that you check this place out.

Real Housewife's of OC Reunion

So I just finished watching the Reunion show of the Real Housewife's and I was so upset to see women tearing each other down with such ferocity. To see "adults" doing this not only upsets me but makes me sad. I have played the part of the "mean" girl and I would like to think that I have learned from my mistakes. Life is hard enough without having someone you think as a friend only want to bring out the worst for you. It took me a while to realize how hurtful it is to others when I try to be conniving. It is honestly so much easier to stay in the positive zone.

The woman named Tamra really made me think. This is a woman who takes obvious pleasure in taking down Gretchen. Gretchen is a 30 yr old woman with a much older fiancee who happens to be dying of cancer. It is very obvious that Gretchen loves her fiancee even if twice her age. Tamra outright calls her a gold digger, accuses her of having a secret boyfriend and alleges that Gretchen is being paid by her fiancee to take care of her. It is so uncalled for. Why is Tamra so concerned with Gretchen. Is Tamra that much of a ego maniac or is she just so insecure about herself? As a mother of four you would think that Tamra would be more concerned with her family instead of focusing so much negative energy on Gretchen. I know this is only a t.v. show but pop culture is such a large part of our lives today that it undoubtedly has an effect on its viewers. I hope that the viewers can learn from the mistakes of these women.

Happy Hour - The Grown Up way to party

When I was in college I did my fair share of drinking like most. Usually it was at frat parties or the "it" club/bar at the time. College was great. You had very little to worry about compared to real life. You didn't have to take things so seriously. Therefore drinking during the week was totally acceptable, in fact, its the norm. As most of us know, you get a huge reality check once you graduate. There is no more getting trashed on a Tuesday night. Well, maybe every once in awhile but its a rare occasion. Six a.m. comes around really quickly when you don't crawl into bed until 2am. Nobody likes to face a nine hour day when you are battling a raging headache and you still kinda feel a little drunk. So as the intelligent adults that we are, we have developed another excuse to booze. And this event is called "Happy Hour". Sometimes we try to legitimize it because it occurs after a long, hard day. It is a widely accepted practice. Its almost like happy hour is a reward for having to work as opposed to b-sing around everyday. Even philathropic events have used the lure of happy hour to increase membership. Mostly happy hours occur for me on Thursday night. That way if you drink too much it isn't that bad because Friday is the end of the work week. Also, happy hour occurs between the hours of five to seven pm. That way if you stop drinking early you have a chance to recover for the next workday. Plus, most companies are pretty relaxed on Friday. So, my advice to all you soon to be graduated college seniors is to focus less on staying out to the am hours and focus on "Happy Hour". Believe me, you will thank me later.

Valentine's Day

So tomorrow is Valentine's Day. I will be celebrating it with my BFF's. None of my close friends are in relationships so we have decided to go out and have a fun time. I actually do have a boyfriend but he is off somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico so I won't be the recipient of any romance. Hopefully my boyfriend will have the good sense to send me some sort of token of his undying love for me, hahaha. Otherwise its going to be ugly. I'm not expecting some crazy gift but anything to know he is thinking about me. When it comes down to it are we ever really satisfied with Valentine's Day? There is so much hype around it. Everywhere I look there is some kind of advertisement about it. Its impossible to escape. Help! I'm being attacked by a large chocolate heart!

Hello Kitty and MAC Cosmetics

MAC cosmetics just launched their line of cosmetics inspired by Hello Kitty. I am a huge Hello Kitty fan so of course I had to get it the first day it came out. I had my makeup done by a super fun girl named Sandy at Macy's in Memorial City Mall. She did a really great job on my makeup. I usually don't like getting makeovers because most "alleged" makeup artists have no idea how to do makeup. I usually wind up looking a hot mess. Sandy, my makeup artist, came up to me and asked me what kind of makeover I wanted. I told her to go for it and use whatever colors she wanted. This is apparently a rare occurrence because most people want the "natural look". To me this makes no sense. MAC cosmetics is known for its outlandish colors and vibrancy. If you want the "natural" look then you should probably hit the Clinique counter. So check out my new obsession.

Girls Behaving Badly

What is the deal these days? It seems like every time I turn on the t.v. there is a new reality show exploiting women. There is this show called Bad Girls Club which groups out of control women all together in a house and then films them acting ridiculous. They fight with each other over petty things and basically have no goals other than partying. Why can't there be a show that shows young women doing positive things. I know this show is suppose to be an "amusing" television show but it has gone beyond the point of being an acceptable program. Sound off if you have seen this show and tell me what you think.

Merchandising Star Awards Luncheon

Last Thursday I attended the Merchandising Star Awards Luncheon with my mom. It was put on by the University of Houston Department of Consumer Science and Merchandising. I attended this specific college and graduated from it in 2007. I attended the event as a collegian and really enjoyed it. Apparently the event has grown over the past few years into a larger production. It was held at the Hotel Zaza, one of the swankiest hotels in Houston. If you have not been to the Hotel Zaza you are missing out. The hotel is decorated in a modern, abstract fashion. It is by far the "hautest" hotel in Houston. During the luncheon the attendees were entertained by a dance troupe also from the University of Houston. The Master of Ceremonies was anchorwoman Dominique Sachse. The Honorees included Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Rosanne Rogers, Emily Armenta, Target Stores and Amy Mayfield. The proceeds from this event are used to support the permanent endowment for the University of Houston Consumer Sciences and Merchandising Program. Before the luncheon a special coffee was held for students, alumnae and teachers. I was happy to run into my favorite professor Dr. Shirley Ezell. This is one professor that I knew really cared about her students. She was the first person to help me find a job in the retail industry. She truly made a lasting impression. The luncheon occurs every other year and I will keep everyone updated if you would like to participate in the next event.
